Good Apples of STEM

We’ve created a simple system to help educators and students choose great STEM programs that don’t cause harm or foster militarism.

Recognised Good Apples of STEM don’t have ties to the weapons industry, and promote peaceful and positive applications of STEM.

Good Apples of STEM can reach a growing network of schools, educators, students and families who love STEM and want to apply it for the common good.

How it Works

Companies and organisations delivering STEM programming can apply to be recognised by Teachers for Peace as a Good Apple of STEM.

Who can apply?

STEM programs with (1) no formal or informal ties to the weapons industry, and/or (2) ethical partnership policies that prevent any ties to the weapons industry, and/or (3) a focus on ethical and peaceful applications of technology – for examples in health, food systems, climate or environment, assisstive tech, humanitarian aid – and/or ethical and critical thinking about technology, are eligible to apply.

What’s required?

Recognised Good Apples of STEM must demonstrate that they meet our criteria by providing publicly available and verifiable information about their sponsors, donors, partners, staff, policies, program content and values.

Awarding of Apples is at the discretion of Teachers for Peace; recognition as a Good Apple of STEM is valid for one year.

What’s the benefit?

Recognised Good Apples of STEM will be listed on our website and may promote themselves using the Good Apples of STEM logo. Good Apples will be promoted to a growing network of educators and students, and can build their profile as leaders in ethical and peaceful STEM education.
